Features

Function
The Observer IV Remote Site Camera uses GSM-EDGE cellular internet service offered by GSM cellular providers including AT&T Data Connect and T-Mobile Internet Only to transmit JPG images to any FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or email server of your choice. Images can be acquired according to schedule and/or upon external triggers such as motion sensors or trip switches. Once Observer has transmitted them to the server, images can be viewed, managed, archived, and served to other web clients.

Remote Mobile GSM EDGE Wireless
Internet Snapshot Camera
Mechanical
The Observer IV GSM-EDGE Remote Site Wireless Internet Camera is a weather proof unit constructed in a painted aluminum extrusion of rectangular cross section. An acryllic window at one end provides protection for the camera lens inside. Controls and interface connectors are behind a cover at the other end. The GSM antenna mounts directly on the top. The camera is mounted by means of a standard 1/4-20 threaded hole in bottom of the chassis.

Setup
GSM-EDGE data service must be established for Observer IV before snapshots can be transmitted. Cellular data service coverage maps are viewable for T-Mobile, and AT&T. Cellular data rate plans are also viewable for T-Mobile's Unlimited Internet Plan and AT&T.

Operational settings for Observer IV are made using a common browser running on a computer connected to the camera through an RS-232 port before final installation. These settings include exposure, picture quality, color balance, picture size in pixels, transmission schedule, external trigger, html link page generator, time, date, day, GSM account settings (APN and PIN), and FTP and HTTP server settings (IP addresses, folders, and passwords).

Viewing Pictures using Your Computer
There are many ways to view pictures after Observer IV has automatically uplaoded them to an FTP server. Included with Observer IV is FTP client software that automatically checks the FTP server for new pictures from up to four cameras simultaneously at user selected time intervals. You may download Colorado Video's FTPJPGReader software now and try it by following these instructions.

A browser, like the one your using now, may also be used to view pictures. For instance, just type "ftp://www.colorado-video.com/incoming/" into your browser's address bar to see a list of files on Colorado Video's FTP server. Click on a ".jpg" to view it. If you're using the Opera browser, you can set it to automatically update the picture periodically. Simply click "Navigation" then "Reload Every" and then select your desired update time interval. Opera has a great feature here because it can be used to update any web page automatically at any time interval you desire.
